Werewolves? Where? Wolves? Men that are wolves? Many wolves. Everywhere. Many men. That is enough for M'aiq.

Selfie, comic book effect

For some reason I like the comic book filter in iMessage.

I really needed some chill time after this week.

Completely unimportant questions, just because I'm curious and I think it's fun!

Your phone, in your pocket?

When you put your phone in your pocket, how is it oriented?

@metro I have honestly fucking had it with those ~ironic abrasive shitposter~ types

See - this is why I don’t bow to peer pressure.

This is an objectively good toot.

right: what WAP means today

Ah that feeling when trying to find out why something doesn’t work....and the conclusion is that it never worked, because the software never implemented it

I propose to rename the Van Allen belts to Van Halen belts.

@liaizon @diabeticus @SubwayTooter you don't have to track accounts, just instances. Between isolate Gab and general community vigilance, Tusky has demonstrated that is very possible and very effective. Husky ("Hitler Tusky," a fork of Tusky) literally only exists because Tusky's block list is effective.

so when it comes to that fascist, racist, utterly corrupt piece of human garbage who has already contributed to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people and violated the human rights of at least that many, well

I sincerely wish he was dead and I would sleep much better if he were.

nuclear holocaust, nightmares, Trump

And this is where Trump entered the picture in Nov of 2016.

I've been literally having occasional sleepless nights and waking nightmares since then, sort of expecting that this fucking sociopathic narcissist burns the world at some point.

You know it's a risk, and I'm one of those people who can't just ignore reality and think happy thoughts to distract myself.

He didn't even blink after 200k+ dead americans, you know he wouldn't give a shit about the world

and without disarming to the level where it's mostly "just" participating countries hurting each other, it's not a question of If, but When a major fuckup happens that results in the world going up in flames.

I get reminded of that Richard Feynman quote often ( goodreads.com/quotes/6564963-i )

40 years, 60 years, 80 years, 100-120 years. At some point these intervowen human/infrastructure systems are going to fuck up.

Reality is that we're on par to have a major fuckup/close call at least every ~20 years or so.

Cuban Missile Crisis? Stanislav Petrov? Just a couple of cases where we came close to annihilation (and I don't have to specify who "we" is, because it includes everyone).

The thing is, the current nuclear mutually assured destruction is hair-triggered on the scale that goes way beyond ending countries and falls on the "ending the human species" scale.

Meaning that the former pulls in human irrationality and the latter all the mistakes and decay that aging, legacy, overlapping computer systems and physical infrastructure brings.

Reading the soviet accounts of how they approached decision making, reading how the US approached nuclear decision making over the decades is fucking scary. Reality is messy and full of fear and doubt and the process was/is fraught with potential mistakes.

I'm usually more rational than most people, which is usually a good thing, but when it comes to nuclear weapons that's less than ideal.

People like to think that mutually assured destruction is a game theoretically sound, rational process and this governs the use of nuclear weapons.

The reality is that nuclear weapons are embedded in the mess of multiple nations' vague decision-making and computerized military systems.
