The answer: yes, they did.
Police unions in the US
Deeply ironic that one of the few examples of effective unions in the US is for jackbooted thugs.
Instead of learning from it that unions are a powerful tool to protect your interests (and would be nice to have them for normal people), I think this will further increase anti-union sentiment in the US.
The US does need laws though that ban police unions from having any say in disciplinary matters, restricting them to wage and working condition negotiations only.
Police in the US
It’s not just the police btw but the criminal justice system, with DAs and coroners, prisons and parole.
So it all has to be restructured from the ground up. Police has to be demilitarized, but more than that: most police are in no business wielding guns. Take them away.
It’s not just police forces. The police unions are in the coverup business aswell. They actively block firing and prosecuting corrupt police. They have to be reformed from the ground up.
Police in the US
I have to confess I never understood the ACAB sentiment from a german/austrian perspective.
Policing in the US is wildly corrupted for a country that’s not supposed to be a dictatorship. It’s racist, but not just racist. It’s corrupt in the sense that it’s like being part of organized crime, with all the peer behaviour, bullying and excusing horrible behaviour. They are better than the catholic church at covering up crimes.
oh, so "Two Girls One Cup" is about two girls who just want to use standardized kitchen measures! Wow, clarity after all this time!
