"Whenever people dismiss the value of art and philosophy, remember that it is the first thing that dictators purge"
remember when the internet felt massive
but now it's actually massive and it feels tiny
what went wrong
These maps show a Google designated 'area of interest' in Neukölln. We wanted to show that the 'area of interest' does not actually represent the most dense or active part of a neighbourhood, but rather a subjective selection of a more class privileged and less minority owned area. Our data shows that Hermannstrasse is much more dense with businesses than the designated 'AOI', and that on Hermannstrasse there are many more working class and immigrant owned businesses. https://witches.town/media/rCOcyyIJeLGLsj1yK3E https://witches.town/media/X-Bonit-_nhX1Y-6qB4 https://witches.town/media/714iIspm3QZw-N4wSE4 https://witches.town/media/LNaa9CnbQWsC7FJOaqQ

Maybe it's time to replace the
"you are the product; your data is sold to advertisers" argument with
"you are the training data for the AI that will replace you"
If life has taught me anything it's that when you hear "with all due respect", somebody's about to get disrespected.

...which isn't to say that transforming one spreadsheet doesn't affect the world because obviously it does (that's the history of computation essentially, going back to punched cards). it's just the "we're all doomed by robots lol" narrative acts like a weird sink for actual critical thinking about what these procedures are doing
[my impression of the state of AI in pop culture, snarky, sorry]
RESEARCHER: I have made yet another somewhat interesting way to transform one spreadsheet into another spreadsheet
JOURNALISTS: we're all doomed by robots lol

I also have this archival tendency that feels very Early Internet Adopter/Cuspy Gen-X/Millennial to me—the idea that my online persona must have Perfect Continuity and anything less amounts to lies or censorship, as though the artifact I'm leaving behind is more important than connection in the moment. I don't know where I'm going with this. mastodon makes it easy to ramble. I'm still doing it. the end, no moral
Parce qu'apparement c'est pas un outil super connu, promo pour "q" http://harelba.github.io/q/ '"Text as Data". Faire des requetes sql sur des fichiers csv-like, ou même stdin.. ça permet de faire genre ça :
$ ps -ef | q -H "SELECT UID,COUNT(*) cnt FROM - GROUP BY UID ORDER BY cnt DESC LIMIT 2"
root 140
petrus 28
Alors ok avec cut, sort, grep et ptet wc, ou même awk y'a moyen de faire pareil, mais je trouve ça convi :)

Can people get a little better at boosting toots they like? Those of us on small instances who are looking for new content must basically discover new accounts through boosts from those we already follow.
